A little more about us

The choir was formed in 1946 and was originally known as Northampton men’s own male voice choir. This was later changed to the present Northampton Male Voice Choir.

In recognition of its significant contribution to charity fundraising, the choir proudly wears the Northampton Borough coat of arms as its badge.

How does belonging to the choir benefit its members?

Rehearsals involve warm ups which teach correct breathing, improved vocal tone and increased musical knowledge. This lays the foundations for well executed concerts. The buzz created by such a performance has to be experienced to be appreciated.

There is a further dimension to belonging to Northampton Male Voice Choir. The friendships and camaraderie created by a group of about fifty men ranging in age from 12 to 85, from vastly different backgrounds and occupations, is almost unique.

Sick members are not forgotten and the choir is regularly updated with their progress.

From time to time the choir is able to join forces with other male voice choirs and has sung with London welsh, Mevagissey, Llanelli and Braintree amongst others.

It is the choir's policy to try to combine a short holiday with a singing tour every other year - preferably abroad. At the moment the economic climate is proving a bit of a barrier. Hopefully, circumstances will improve soon. Past trips have included the Republic of Ireland, Malta, France and Spain.
