Choir say goodbye at Member’s Funeral

the Northampton Male Voice Choir said goodbye to Peter Thomas at his Funeral on 20th Jan 2015 after his sudden death. The choir chose to honour the memory of their fellow choir member by singing his favourite song – The Rose. Peter was a very enthusiastic member who will be sadly missed. Peter’s family thanked the Choir for their attendance and Peter’s wife, Teresa, said that he would have been so very pleased that we sang The Rose.

Bell Tower Funds Boosted By NMVC Concert

Saturday 22nd November 2014 saw NMVC perform at All Saints Church, Kettering in aid of the Bell Tower. “To say the Concert was brilliant is an understatement” said Angela Brett Church Warden, the whole audience was blown away by the fantastic sound you guys made. Angela continued, “Many Choirs have performed here over the years but NMVC produced an amazing sound that none of the other choirs achieved. Please come again soon!!” As well as the choir performing on the night the audience was also treated to the first public performance from Four in a bar, a Barbershop Quartet which included Stephen Bell, NMVC’s music Director. St. Mark’s Church Diamond Jubilee 1954 -2014

Saturday 8th November saw the NMVC in concert at Whitehills, Northampton in celebration of St Mark’s Church Diamond Jubilee and to remember those lost to war. The 43 voice choir were in fine form, performing a varied and balanced repertoire of 20 songs that catered for the dual sentiments of the occasion. Traditional arrangements were sandwiched between jovial, upbeat numbers such as When the Saints and The Jolly Roger and reflective songs like The Rose and The Mansions of The Lord. The pathos of the latter, which featured a remembrance citation between verses and was followed by a minute’s silence, bringing a tear to many an eye in the audience. The evening’s choral works were very ably complemented with piano solos by the Choir’s Asst. Accompanist, Sue Rayment, which included pieces by Beethoven, Gershwin and a lovely medley of popular hymns and seasonal songs. Following much applause, the Choir gave a stirring encore rendition of The American Trilogy which rounded off a most enjoyable and joyous evening’s entertainment. Massed Choir raise £3,000 for Help for Heroes

NMVC were one of five Choirs including Wigston, Rugby, Pelenna Valley and Moira who joined together to perform in “Magic of Male Voice” Concert in the Temple Speech Room Rugby School Saturday 25th October.   The event was to raise money for Help for Heroes, the sales of tickets resulted in £3,000 being raised and with a collection on the door and other items the final figure will be substantially more. The Choirs performed a number of traditional Male Voice Choir songs a long with new songs to the Choirs including Nessun Dorma, My Way and Unchained Melody. Wigston is one of Eight Choirs who will join NMVC at Derngate 2nd May 2015 along with National Boys Choir of Scotland and Boobs & Brass.
