Saturday 8th November saw the NMVC in concert at Whitehills, Northampton in celebration of St Mark’s Church Diamond Jubilee and to remember those lost to war. The 43 voice choir were in fine form, performing a varied and balanced repertoire of 20 songs that catered for the dual sentiments of the occasion. Traditional arrangements were sandwiched between jovial, upbeat numbers such as When the Saints and The Jolly Roger and reflective songs like The Rose and The Mansions of The Lord. The pathos of the latter, which featured a remembrance citation between verses and was followed by a minute’s silence, bringing a tear to many an eye in the audience. The evening’s choral works were very ably complemented with piano solos by the Choir’s Asst. Accompanist, Sue Rayment, which included pieces by Beethoven, Gershwin and a lovely medley of popular hymns and seasonal songs. Following much applause, the Choir gave a stirring encore rendition of The American Trilogy which rounded off a most enjoyable and joyous evening’s entertainment. Associate Conductor Andrew Howes lead the Choir. Proceeds were in aid of Church Funds....

One of the ways the Choir has improved is to use recorded parts of songs in Tenor, 2nd Tenor, Baritone and Bass. This means that the Choir Members can practice their piece at home and really learn the part.
